Meet the DJ – Stemvork
What was the very initial moment that made you wanted to make and play music to the masses?
I discovered ‘DJ-ing’ when I tried mixing at a birthday party for a friend with 2 hi-fi systems. No pitch, no fx, no faders ?. Later on, I got the chance to buy some vinyl players and mixer from a friend and a quick visit to the Music Man dance store for my first vinyls was a fact. At age 15 I played my first party. I got the virus and the rest is legend ?
What was the first record you bought and why?
Ooh, tough one. First vinyl was definitely Marcel Woods – De Bom. Before that my first single was Southside Spinners – Luvstruck. Also Energy 52 – Café Del Mar and Grooveyard – Mary Go Wild were among the first tracks I bought. All on vinyl.
When did you realise you were becoming a music junkie?
After the first 200 vinyls, it was quite clear ?
How many records/tunes do you think you have currently?
Vinyl about 500. Now I buy mp3’s and they reach in the thousands. Don’t know exactly.
Who would you say your main musical influences are? Either a person, style of music, group etc
First influences definitely Airwave, Tiësto, Armin Van Buuren, Marco V and Marcel Woods. Mostly trance. After that, it mostly stayed a mixture of trance, hard trance, techno and such with Deadmau5, Arty, Kyau & Albert, Michel De Hey, Secret Cinema, Mr Sam (Mojado) to name a few. I had an EDM period when it first came out. For a brief period, I loved the Swedish House Mafia style music.. Now mostly I found a home in a mixture of Deep House, Afro House, melodic techno and House. Labels like All Day I Dream, Shanti Moscow Radio, Dream Culture are my ‘light’ side. My other darker side feat. Music by an array of amazing artists that can’t possibly fit on this page ?
What was your first gig?
Config & I did 3 lives. All 3 in our own town on 3 separate parties.
How did it go?
Not so well actually. The gig itself went flawlessly but we played a deeply progressive set for a crowd that was used to hard rock or in the best case Techno. Let’s just say we won’t be doing it again in our home town!
What’s your DJ Name?
Give us a little bio of you – hopes, dreams, goals
Oof, tough one. Just want to keep rocking the dancefloor with my style of music: Melodic and deep with a groovy undertone. Dreams: start earning enough with my music to do it full time. See the world while doing what I love most with who I love most. Goals: nothing cheesy like ‘play at festivals like Tomorrowland’ although I wouldn’t say no ? Just getting better while getting more gigs and help my valued DJ friend with our radio show Crossing Borderlines.
Anything else you want to add?
